Workgroup Overview

This workgroup is creating a best practices document for registering and authenticating a device once (for example, within a hotel, or group of hotels, such as a brand) so that the device and it's user can be recognized automatically.

Current Workgroup Charter Outline

Business Problem

There is no single set of best practices for network-based identification of mobile devices to be easily and consistently passed to hotel applications. With a variety of network identification protocols and hundreds of potential applications with which hotels may wish to interact with mobile devices, identification of a single set of best practices based on existing standards will guide the development of applications that can drive guest satisfaction and revenue, and operational cost reduction(s).

Planned Outcomes

Identify a set of best practices for registering and authenticating a device once (for example, within a hotel, or group of hotels, such as a brand) so that the device and its user can be recognized automatically. This would employ methods and standards that currently exist or are under development and would allow a user to obtain services, such as access to a hotel network or application. It could also enable a hotel network or application to recognize that a certain device and user have entered the premises.
