Workgroup Overview

This workgroup produced a standardized way for different systems to exchange data, enabling greater information sharing amongst a wide range of existing hotel systems. Initial goals were to establish a simple inter-application file transfer mechanism that is platform independent as well as compatible with Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) architectures. One key benefit of this effort is that it allows legacy interfaces to migrate to Enterprise Service Bus while also reducing programming time. The workgroup published its second specification in October 2010 which added support for arbitrary database queries.

Business Benefits include:

  • Standardizes the way two systems can connect, regardless of data formats
  • Allows legacy interfaces to migrate to Enterprise Service Bus to improve reliability, remote monitoring, and problem investigation
  • Reduces programming time to achieve basic connectivity (often weeks per interface)
  • Provides a simple, low-risk entry point to HTNG web services for development groups

Key Milestones

  • Initial ODX specification released – April 2008
  • WSDL for 2010B created – early 2010
  • Query specification released - October 2010
  • Pilot sites opening – April 2010

Status

The workgroup is currently retired, and thus, not meeting regularly.
