Workgroup Overview

This workgroup provided the “plumbing” layer of connectivity for all HTNG messages, known as the HTNG Web Services Framework (WSF). The WSF enables two systems to reliably exchange any XML messages (HTNG or proprietary), vastly simplifying the implementation of interfaces. It is compatible with all major technology standards, and allows interface developers to focus on business logic, rather than the often complex task of establishing basic connectivity. Most currently, the workgroup released an event notification specification in April 2011.

The workgroup is now considering rechartering to create a new version of their spec that is compatible with the W3C WS-Eventing standard. If interested, please complete the form on our Prospective Workgroups page.

Business Benefits include:

  • Establishes a common “gold” standard for reliable, predictable interfaces
  • Vendors are able to concentrate on interface content rather than handshake
  • Opens up inter connectivity capability for ALL vendors vying for business resulting in better competition
  • Common approach to connectivity simplifies and lowers cost of ownership
  • Utilizes mainstream approach (SOA) to communicate, well supported by operating system and connectivity vendors

Key Milestones

  • Initial Web Service Framework released – April 2007
  • Updated Framework – Fall 2008
  • Additional updates, including an Eventing solution – April 2011

Meeting Schedule
